Maharshi Glossary of Terms

Advaita Vedanta - a non-duality doctrine stating the the individual person is God only he/she has to realize this truth.

The promoter of the A V is Adi the IXth century AD. He maintained that the sole reality is the universal spirit (Brahman) while the body and the physical world are simply maya (illusion).

Karma - refers to the inherited features of the person which shape his present life. The karma is said to be due to the past deeds.

People following the spiritual discipline aim at the liberation from the karma and thus avoiding reincarnation.

Upadesha - spiritual instruction, teahing given by Guru.
